THE GX-5

The GX-5 is the "grand piano for all seasons" for artists. With its resplendent tone and superb power, it adapts to an exceptional variety of instrumental requirements and performance settings.

The new standard in grand piano design surpasses imagination. It combines cutting-edge technology with traditional craftsmanship, applying knowledge and experience passed down through generations. It embodies the philosophy of 'made in Japan' pianos. It offers a light touch typically reserved for larger pianos, and a rich, vibrant, and expressive tone to inspire creative passion. A new era of grand piano performance has arrived.

A JOYFUL TOUCH TO AWAKEN THE IMAGINATION.

The new GX series of grand pianos aims to replicate the delicate control of a concert grand piano, offering a level of refinement that few pianists have had the opportunity to experience.

To achieve this bold goal, the length of the keys has been significantly increased to increase the distance from the pivot point of each key, resulting in a more balanced weight from front to back and allowing for more precise and expressive playing in the lower register, unleashing the pianist's imagination.

Furthermore, the advanced Millennium III action of the GX series incorporates high-tech materials such as the ABS carbon composite to enhance the playing experience for every pianist. The carbon-ABS compound is both highly rigid and lightweight, making it one of the most widely used materials in the aerospace industry as a superior alternative to wood. With these carbon-ABS components, the GX series action is more durable and less prone to performance loss over time, while providing superior responsiveness and control. This evolution in touch can be felt by the pianist with every keystroke, from the first to the last note played.

A CAPTIVATING PURITY OF SOUND THAT MESMERIZES THE ROOM.

To create the distinctive sound of Kawai pianos, various woods are meticulously analyzed for their qualities and character before selecting the finest ones for each specific use. The soundboard is certainly the component that has the most significant influence on the individual tonal elements of the piano. Therefore, only woods that meet the most rigorous standards of gravity and velocity of sound propagation are carefully chosen by experienced artisans to deliver rich and deep bass and long-lasting bright and colourful treble. In addition to the soundboard, the bridges, and the ribs, the finest materials for the inner frame are meticulously selected, combining the unique properties of different hardwoods to create a hybrid-layered piano. This allows for a wide range of sounds and even greater expressive power.

To produce a richer and more immersive sound, the overall rigidity of the GX instruments' body has been improved. The thickness of the upper beam that attaches to the outer frame is increased, allowing the pin blocks to support a tension load of approximately 20 tons. The enhanced tone of each note accentuates the three-dimensional sensation of the sound. Furthermore, the increased rigidity of the carbon steel tuning pins strengthens the stability of the instrument's tuning to meet the pianist's demands.

SILENT AND POWERFUL, STRONG YET DELICATE, THE GX SERIES OFFERS A UNIQUE AND UNPARALLELED SONIC EXPRESSION.

To reproduce the infinite range of emotions of the artist, the GX series utilizes premium grand piano hammers. These hammers are constructed with a type of wood known for its excellent acoustic characteristics, and the hammer felt is crafted with high-quality, long-fibered New Zealand wool. These felted hammers have a soft and delicate surface but are solid and rigid on the inside. During pianissimo passages, the strings are struck by the gentle felt of the hammers to produce a soft and light tone, while fortissimo passages utilize the firmer and harder felted part of the hammer to produce a heavier and more powerful sound. Additionally, all hammers are individually under-felted to enhance their durability. These steps allow experienced piano technicians to achieve the most subtle voicing adjustments to maximize the instrument's exquisite sound potential. It exudes a wide range of tonal colours, from pianissimo to fortissimo, and offers a great variety of musical expression.

The instrument's duplex scaling system provides harmonics in the midrange and treble, adding depth and breadth to the overall tone. And to ensure optimal control of the keyboard surface, that magical point where the pianist and the piano become one, all the black and white keys are covered with a premium Neotex coating. This unique material has moisture-absorbing properties that enhance touch control and prevent slippage, inspiring the pianist with a reassuring sense of satisfaction.

A LIFETIME OF JOY IN A GRAND PIANO

Preserving the precious design of a grand piano while defining a new elegance is the design concept of the GX series. With its smooth curves and large music rack, the instrument's appearance respects the traditional characteristics and captivating form of a grand piano. Increasing the thickness of the upper beam enhances the overall structural rigidity of the instrument while also accentuating the uniqueness of its aesthetics, complemented by the highly distinguished Kawai black finish and the silky-smooth texture that gives the piano body its luxurious polished ebony appearance.
The beauty of the GX series unfolds even further when you open the lid of the instrument: the captivating brilliance of the gold frame, delicate woodwork, quality marks along the inner frame, chic elegance of the warm black felt, reassuring appearance of handcrafted workmanship, and the presence of the Kawai logo. These are the characteristics that embody the spirit of a grand piano.

Lastly, the instruments in the GX series feature practical mechanisms such as the multi-angle lid and the original Kawai "Soft Fall" system, which automatically closes the lid gently, protecting the hands of the performer from lid accidents.

THE GX-5

The GX-5 is an artist's "grand piano for all seasons". With its resplendent sound and superb power, it adapts to an exceptional variety of instrumental and stage requirements.

The new standard in grand piano design surpasses the imagination. Combining state-of-the-art technology with traditional craftsmanship. Application of knowledge and experience handed down from generation to generation. Embodiment of the "made in Japan" piano philosophy. Lightness of touch usually reserved for the largest pianos. Rich, vivid and expressive tone to inspire creative passion. A new era of grand piano performance has arrived.

A JOYFUL TOUCH TO AWAKEN THE IMAGINATION.

The new GX series of grand pianos aims to reproduce the delicate control of a concert grand piano, offering a level of refinement that few pianists have had the opportunity to try.

In order to achieve this bold objective, the length of the keys has been significantly increased to increase the distance of the balance point of each key, offering a more balanced weight from front to back, and allowing more precise and expressive playing at the back of the keyboard to unleash the pianist's imagination. What's more, the GX series' advanced Millennium III action incorporates high-tech materials such as ABS resin alloy with carbon fiber to sublimate everyone's playing experience. Carbon-ABS compound is both highly rigid and very light: these characteristics make it one of the most widely used materials in the aerospace industry as a superior alternative to wood. Thanks to these carbon-ABS parts, the GX series mechanics are more resistant and less prone to loss of performance over time, while offering superior response and control. This evolution in touch can be felt by the pianist every time he or she presses a key, from the first to the last note played.

A CAPTIVATING PURITY OF SOUND THAT MESMERIZES THE ROOM.

To create the characteristic sound of Kawai pianos, numerous woods are meticulously analyzed for their qualities and character, before the best are selected for each specific use. The soundboard is certainly the part with the greatest influence on the piano's individual tonal elements. Therefore, only woods complying with the most rigorous gravity and propagation velocity standards are carefully selected by experienced craftsmen to deliver deep, rich basses and brilliant, colorful, long-lasting highs. In addition to the soundboard, bridges and bars, the finest materials for the inner frame are meticulously selected, combining the unique properties of different hardwoods to create a hybrid layered piano. This enables a vast palette of sounds and even greater expressive power.

To produce a richer, more immersive sound, the overall rigidity of the GX instrument body has been improved. The thickness of the top beam, which attaches to the outer frame, has been increased, enabling the pegboxes to withstand a tensile load of around 20 tons. The improved timbre of each note accentuates the three-dimensional feel of the sound. In addition, the increased rigidity of the piano's carbon steel pegs enhances the instrument's tuning stability to meet the demands of the pianist.

SILENT AND POWERFUL, STRONG YET DELICATE, THE GX SERIES OFFERS A UNIQUE AND UNPARALLELED SONIC EXPRESSION.

To reproduce the artist's infinite palette of emotions, the GX series uses top-quality grand piano hammers. These hammers are constructed from a type of wood with excellent acoustic characteristics, and the hammer felt is made from quality New Zealand long-haired wool. A LIFETIME OF JOY IN A GRAND PIANO

Preserving the precious design of a grand piano while defining a new elegance: this is the design concept of the GX series. With its gentle curves and large console, the instrument's look respects the traditional characteristics and captivating form of a grand piano. Increasing the thickness of the top bar reinforces the instrument's overall structural rigidity, but also accentuates the singularity of this aesthetic, sublimated by the highly distinguished Kawai black color and the silky finish that gives the piano body its luxurious appearance of polished ebony. The beauty of the GX series becomes even more apparent when you open the lid of the instrument: the bewitching brilliance of the gilded frame, the delicate woodwork, the marks of quality all along the inner frame, the chic elegance of the warm black felt, the reassuring aspect of manual craftsmanship, and the presence of the Kawai logo. These are the characteristics that embody the spirit of the grand piano.

Last but not least, GX series instruments feature useful mechanisms such as the multi-angle lid or Kawai's original "Soft Fall" system, which automatically folds the lid down smoothly, protecting the instrument maker's hands from lid accidents.

The GX-1 BLAK Classic Grand Series offers the professional pianist a superb range of tonal expressiveness, as well as a level of elegance and craftsmanship unmatched for a piano of its size. Slightly smaller than the traditional "classical" grand, but larger than a baby grand, it fits perfectly into any smaller home or studio without sacrificing performance.

Millennium III Upright Action

The Millennium III Upright's action features components made from ABS-Carbon, a composite material created by infusing carbon fiber into our famous ABS Styran. ABS-Carbon is incredibly strong and rigid, enabling the creation of lighter action parts without compromising strength. The result is a more powerful, faster action offering greater control and stability than conventional all-wood actions.

Elongated fingerboards made of fir

Fir is the ideal key material - light, yet extremely strong for its weight. It responds with minimal bending and exceptional consistency, conveying every subtle nuance of the pianist's interpretation while remaining stable through years of intensive use. The length of each key has been extended to facilitate playing and offer a more uniform response from the front to the back of the playing surface. The key shanks are also designed with a slightly higher profile for maximum rigidity and increased power.

Tone

NEOTEX key surfaces

Our exclusive NEOTEX key surface, made from cellulose fibers, offers a smooth, unobtrusive texture similar to natural ivory and ebony, as well as a semi-porous silica-filled surface to absorb natural oils and hand perspiration. Because NEOTEX is used for both black and white keys, key feel is consistent across the entire keyboard. NEOTEX resists cracking and fading over years of use, and is also resistant to static electricity, helping to prevent the build-up of unwanted dust. The result is a beautiful, durable key surface offering exceptional playability.

Rigid foundation for key travel

The hammer rail is the "backbone" of the piano's action. GX Series hammer rails are made of durable extruded aluminum with our exclusive double-beam design for added strength and stability. Both the hammer rail and wippens rail are permanently locked in place to preserve the careful tolerances of the action design and ensure consistent touch response throughout the life of the piano.

The entire surface of the hammer rail is finely notched to hold each hammer flange securely in place, ensuring optimum hammer alignment. The surface-mounted hammer flanges are made of PBT resin, allowing the action screws to remain tight without shrinking or swelling. All these meticulous design features form the rigid foundation of the GX series, guaranteeing precise key travel over time.

Solid spruce conical soundboard

The soundboard is the heart of a piano. Its role is to transform the vibrations of the piano strings into a rich, resonant sound. Kawai uses only solid quarter-grain spruce for the K series soundboards. Each soundboard is strategically tapered to maximize its tonal capacity. Only those that meet or exceed our strict quality standards are selected for use in our professional upright pianos.

Hybrid inner border (Rim Konsei Katagi)

The exclusive Konsei Katagi rim leverages different hardwoods to achieve the ideal sonic balance. For the inner rim, finely porous hardwoods are used to provide superior brilliance and projection of the high-frequency range of the sound spectrum. These are layered with wider-pore hardwoods that offer warmth and fullness to the sound. The synergy of structurally divergent hardwoods produces a powerful and pleasingly rounded sound, which is the hallmark of Shigeru Kawai grand pianos.

Vertically laminated bridge

The bridge performs the essential task of transferring the vibrations from the strings to the soundboard. GX series bass bridges are made from the highest quality hard maple or beech. Treble bridges are vertically laminated with 13 layers of maple and mogno for maximum strength and optimal sound energy transfer.

The touch

Grand piano touch: Grand Feel III wooden keyboard mechanism Incorporating many long-established principles for an acoustic piano, the Grand Feel III keyboard action used by the CA701 combines realistic materials, movements and mechanisms to recreate the exceptional touch of the finest concert grand pianos. The eighty-eight black and white keys are made entirely from long pieces of wood, with finely textured ivory and ebony surfaces to absorb moisture and facilitate control. Each wooden key pivots smoothly on a balancing axis - the ends rise and fall to reproduce the familiar pendulum motion of acoustic piano action. When the key is pressed, the back of the key rises, triggering a graduated-weight hammer to strike a pressure switch. The force applied to this switch is then measured, and the corresponding note is played with authentic tonal character and volume.

Extra-long key length, extra-long pivot length

In addition to extended, all-wood keys, Grand Feel keyboards also feature one of the longest key pivot lengths, equivalent to that of a Kawai grand piano. This pivot length balances the weight of touch between the front and back of each key, enabling greater fluidity and expressive control, while minimizing the need to readjust technique when using an acoustic grand piano.

Powerful 6-speaker output system

The latest Concert Artist instruments feature high-fidelity speaker systems specially designed to reproduce deep bass and crisp highs. The high-specification CA701 features an enhanced 6-speaker output system, with low frequencies diffused from the underside of the instrument, and mid and high frequencies projected outwards by top-mounted drivers and forward-facing tweeters. The result is a broad, resonant sound that closely mirrors the immersive sound field of an acoustic grand piano.
